something to do on a Sunday

Hey there,
I saw this http://naptimequilter.blogspot.ca/2013/06/slabs-for.html  when I was trolling through blogland and think I will try and make one/two this afternoon.  Of course the challenge will be finding similar colour families since I went on a major tear through my scraps a couple weeks ago. It seems easy to make and is close to home.
What do you think?

It's the final countdown ....

That's the song that has been playing through my head for the last week .... now it really is the last week and the final countdown has officially began!!  I hope you had a great birthday yesterday!  In your honour, I visited the dentist for the third time in a month!

I stumbled upon the Joann's website yesterday and saw that their big roll of batting was on sale for 50% off, so I bought it!!  I've been out of batting since last summer and our apartment isn't the best place to lay out quilts to finish them, so I've just kept making quilt tops instead of finishing all of them.  I figure I will be able to use it all up this summer because I have a number of quilt tops made already.  In fact, I finished another top this weekend!! I had planned on getting it done last week but finals, marking and a retirement party got in my way!  It's not as bright as the one in the pattern but I still like it!

It was difficult to select colours for this one because I was using scraps up!  It's not that big and is square so I think it will become a wall hanging eventually (once I have a wall to hang it on!!).  Or it might look good as an accent quilt with the other Hometown quilt.  The one I was making for our bed, that has recently been demoted to the spare bed.  Poor quilt, demoted before it was even done!!  Its sad really!

As you can imagine, I started another quilt!!  I'm so excited about this one because I love the material so much.  Its called PB&J!!  Here are a few pictures of some squares that I started Sunday night:

Since there are 39 squares in this quilt and a lot of cutting/sewing together, I thought I would do it one colour at a time.  Then we can lay it out at your place to pick the colour pattern.  This is the first colour I started with...

Here's the first one put together.... it's actually not sewn down the middle yet.

Here's the second colour.

Here's the third ... all pinned together, ready to be stitched!

I'm surprised how fast I can get these blocks put together.  My goal is to finish this quilt the first week we are on holidays!!  Actually finish it and put it on my bed!!  Now that I have all that batting arriving soon.

4 days left ... we can do it!

Update

Hey there,
The end is near, the end is near... I just keep saying  this over and over.  I have actually managed to get a bit of sewing done despite Andy giving me his lung infection.( very scary, have never actually felt that incapacitated ever)  I nearly have Logan and Eva's quilt done. It's white, turquoise, and a black print with some turquoise in it. It looks similar to this picture.
I
I quilted it with wavy lines going vertically and have the turquoise binding nearly done.  Eva's really a modern quilt kind of girl so I hope she loves it.  I've also been trying to make blocks with all of my not quite scraps.  You know, those pieces left over from other projects that are like fat quarter size so you save them  for something.  I just making some simple block that will be a scrap quilt for someone unknown.
I've really been thinking about doing some sort of solids quilt but haven't made up my mind yet what pattern/way to go with that.
I also bought a meter of yellow with very small white polka-dot fabric for the yellow/grey quilt.  It kind of reminded me of gingham ? and old ladies so it must be right for the quilt.
We might be off to Stoon today so some fabric shopping might be in store for me.
So what are you up to today?

Baby gilf

I made a quilt for Dallas' cousin's baby boy, Jase.  I haven't met him yet but the quilt is done!!
Check it out:

I think it turned out pretty cute!

Today was the longest Tuesday ever but I did learn that I only have 11 more days of classes left before final exams.  Did you know final exams are the best time of the year?!?!?! Okay marking them does suck but I don't have to plan or teach ... just sit there and mark!  I can do that!  I am so exhausted, I just want to sleep or at least sit and do nothing!

Hope you had a good Tuesday!

Wedding Quilt Plans

Hey ...

I have both quilts planned.  Whenever we decide to get together, I'll bring both patterns.  I think we will need a larger variety of yellows for the second one (Primrose and Poppies).  I'll grab a few more fat quarters in yellow and white.

Here are the patterns:

We'll have to use my ruler for making the 1/2 square triangles.  I'll do a few practise squares to make sure I get them the right size.  That way the borders will line up too!!  This one may take a few late nights of sewing to get done.  How are we going to quilt it?

Hope Andy feels better soon!

Sunday ...

Hi!!

I like both ideas for Carrie.  I do like the one you posted that Carrie said she likes.  I may need to order a little more grey material but that's no big deal.  That means that I have to spend $50.00 to get free shipping ... darn ... more material ... WOOT WOOT!!!

What are you up to today?  Here's my two options:

I know ... difficult choice!  I have a plan on how I'm going to get through it .... I'm going to mark for 30 minutes and then sew for 30 - 60 mins.  Or if that doesn't work, I'm going to bribe myself and mark 10 tests then quilt 10 line.

The quilt in the picture is the modern baby quilt that I got from Peach Tree in Regina.  I love it and its no easy to do.  I think I'm going to make a few of these ones to give away or sell.  There's a Baby Expo coming up in September and I was thinking about making a bunch of stuff to sell at it.  I'll have to see how much I get done over the summer.  Then again, maybe I'll be to busy making stuff for me instead!!

Speaking of making stuff for myself, I final got the new pattern that I have been waiting for and some more material to make it!!  I almost started it yesterday but then I stopped myself because I had just started the modern baby quilt.  Thought that I should maybe finish a project before I start another.  Not sure why I thought that yesterday because I've never done that before.  I have a number of UFOs that I really really need to get done.  Maybe that should be my summer plan ... finish UFOs.  Does that include all the projects that I have the material for but haven't started or just the ones that I started?!?!?

Speaking of UFOs ... Chelsea is going to buy the curved pieced on that I made and haven't finished yet.  She wants a bright blue/teal colour on the back.  This is the one that she wants:

Any chance the fabric store in NB has  this fabric?  If they do, I need 5-6 meters of it.  Can you pick it up for me please?!?!  If not, then I keep looking for something online.  I'm sure I will be able to find something and am not too worried about it.

This next week is going to be crazy long.
Monday - dentist appointment in Carlyle and then a doctor appointment back in Estevan
Tusday - SRC meeting and ladies night golf
Wednesday - set up for dance and Awards night
Thursday - Foam Dance
Friday - Supper at the Olive Branch in Carnduff with some of our staff members
Saturday - Birthday celebration for a friend
Sunday - cleaning, laundry - procrastinate marking and everything else

I'm so ready for final exam week and summer holidays!!

Let me know what you think we should do for Carrie's quilt.  I kind of like the one that she picked out.  I can make a new pattern for it and get some more material ordered!  We could still do it in grey and yellow.

Well I'm off to mark ... enjoy your Sunday!
